ARTIST
CALL OUT
We’re thrilled to announce five paid artist residencies for the next Newport Live Act Fringe Festival — a celebration of bold ideas and boundary-pushing performance.

If your work lives anywhere in the world of performance—Theatre, Dance, Circus, Puppetry, Physical Theatre, Clown, Comedy, Performative Installation, Immersive or Site-Specific work, or any hybrid you’ve invented yourself—we want to hear from you. If you consider what you do to be performance, this call-out is for you.
For two weeks, each artist, company, or collaboration will take over a space in the heart of Newport. These spaces are as varied as the artists we hope to welcome: museums, libraries, pub theatres, shop units, outdoor corners of the city, and unexpected places waiting to be transformed. Windows can become stages, lobbies can become landscapes—traditional or experimental, the city is yours to play with.

We welcome applications from across Wales and beyond. If you’re travelling, please factor accommodation and travel into your budget.

Your mission: spend two weeks in March 2026 (9 - 22 March) exploring, dreaming, building and experimenting. Develop something brand new or carve space for a spark that’s been waiting to grow.
Each residency comes with a £1,500 contribution towards your expenses.

Because these spaces aren’t always conventional, we’re asking artists to embrace their quirks—limited tech, minimal production, and an invitation to let creativity lead the way.

At the end of the residency, all artists will share up to 45 minutes of their work with audiences across the city. Together, these sharings will create a weekend of performances, conversations, and encounters at our second Newport Live Act Fringe.

Come reshape the city. Surprise us. Surprise yourself.
FAQ's
Ive already applied for the Fringe Fest with the same idea, can I apply for CC? Yes you can. This won't affect your fringe application.
What if I'm unsuccessful for CC? Unsuccessful artists will have an opportunity to still enter their work into the Festival - We'll be in touch.
Can I apply again if I have previously been awarded a CC position? Unfortunately not. This is for artists who have not previously had their work funded by the programme.
My application was previously unsuccessful, can I re-apply? YES.
My application requires a lot of additional staff / production support that I cannot account for in my budget, what shall I do? We recommend that this may not be the right development scheme for you. Aside from this, we are able to support funding applications that require support in kind.
You said you dont want musicians but music is part of my practice, can I apply? Yes. If live music or sound is explored as part of a wider performance concept this is ok.
When will I hear the results of my application? Artists will be contacted no later than January 31st.

Fee & Budget: The £1,500 fee is to include all costs and expenses. Where possible, we can support with basic technical resources and making materials.
We can also help support with information for low-cost options for travel and accommodation listed in our artists' welcome pack.
However, should your costs greatly exceed the amount offered, we recommend you seek additional financial support.”
