We are offering a series of 5
paid residencies for our "Live Act City Trail"
Focusing on disciplines that cover the performing arts such as Theatre, Dance, Circus, Puppetry, Physical Theatre, Clown; Comedy, Performative Installation, Immersive performance, Site-Specific Performance & more, we invite those who consider their art form to be of a performance art to apply.
We invite each artist, company or collaboration to be resident in a Newport city centre space for 2 weeks.
This residency is open to artists both in and out of Wales, however, costs for accommodation & travel should be included in your budget if applicable.

This residency requires the artist/s to work in the city for 2 weeks in March 2025 to develop a piece of new work to share; this can be the inception of something new or the nugget of something that needs some space and time to develop.
The total amount offered for the residency is £1500
The locations are diverse and range from museums, library spaces, pub theatres, shop units & more. Artists may want to work indoors or outdoors, in shop windows or in traditional stage formats.

We ask artists to consider the restrictions of a non-conventional performance space and to think about how they will manage the sharing of work with limited technical or production elements.

The 2 weeks will culminate in all artists and companies sharing up to 45 minutes of their work to audiences. This will form a weekend of performances across the city, inclusive of some talks & interactions in a mini fringe festival called 'Live Act City Trail'

Whilst there is no particular theme, we encourage those to apply whose work feels bold, curious, playful, ambitious & connective, reach out to your audiences & challenge the conventions of theatrical form.
We are particularly interested in hearing from artists from underrepresented backgrounds, who have not been awarded a CC residency in the past and those who consider themselves early in their career.

Interested in collaborating and applying as a collective? All artists wishing to apply with a company or collaborator in mind must consider how they will cover the fees within the commission offered.

Please note: Creative Curations is a highly competitive scheme, We deeply understand the lack of support for artists in making work. This is something we continue to campaign for.

What If I'm not selected but still want to perform as part of the 'Live Act City Trail'?
Should your application be unsuccessful, we are able to offer free development and rehearsal space in kind at The Place Newport. This may mean that you still wish to perform as part of the festival lineup, and we offer these artists 100% box office takings for their shows. Be sure you let us know whether this is of interest to you in your application or contact form. We recommend artists only select this option if their fee is covered by alternate funding OR if you have pre-existing work ready to share.

How to apply:
A cover letter of 1 side of A4 telling us about your residency idea and how you / the work would benefit from this opportunity. We'd like to know about your art form, influences and past work, you can include links, images and anything you feel will help us get a full idea of your work.

You can also apply using video or audio format, no longer than 2 minutes by sending us a wetransfer link.

Additional Documents: We ask artists to complete our simple budget form of how they will use the funds available to realise their residency. We ask you to also complete the equal opportunities form below.

Question? Email us at connect@tinshedtheatrecompany.com (Please do not send applications to this address)
The deadline for applications is 31st October 2024 @5pm
