In April 2025, Tin Shed Theatre Co, The Place and their incredible partners commissioned three artists to paint 11 utility boxes and assets in Newport City Centre. All paintings are inspired by artwork in CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales (https://celfarycyd.wales), and form a trail around the city which provides an alternative way of engaging with the gallery while bringing some colour and vibrancy to the streets!

The wonderful artists involved in this work are Canaan J. Brown (https://canaanjbrown.co.uk), Anna-Amalia Coviello (https://www.wellwagon.org) and Andy O'Rourke (https://www.andyorourke.com). Interact with our map to find the City Boxes, or download the Newport Now app to learn more about the artists and what inspired their paintings.

This project was organised by Tin Shed Theatre Co. & The Place in partnership with CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales, Welsh Gov, Newport City Council, Hedyn, The Hive, RE:MAKE, POBL, Spokesafe, The Gap & Newport Rising.
