MAESGLAS UNDERPASS COMMISSION
NEWPORT
---------------------------
DEADLINE 30th MARCH
---------------------------
FOR ARTISTS/COMPANIES
This is a Living Levels Landscape Partnership and Tin Shed Theatre Co. co-commission to offer an artist and/or group theopportunity to write a project brief and apply for up to £7,500 of funding through the National Lottery Heritage Fund to create a unique piece of art that can enhance an urban underpass situated on the nationally important Gwent Levels.
We’re looking for a company and/or artist to create an interpretive Artwork within the Maesglas Underpass. It’s about re-imagining space and creating a unique work of art that enhances peoples experience of travelling through.
Through working with the local community, there is the opportunity to create an interpretive Artwork at the Maesglas Underpass; a significant structure on the cycle route between Tredegar House, the heavily urbanised Duffryn Estate, and the Wetlands Centre. We feel this passage way has the potential to become a canvas that can tell a story of the Gwent Levels to local people and visitors.
It would be particularly effective if it introduced walkers/cyclists to the bird and animal life they could encounter as they approach the Wetlands. The work has the potential to be digital, visual, sculptural, notional, interactive, site specific and playful.
We want to use this commission to create an opportunity to bridge the gap between the residential hinterland and the environmental oasis of the Wetlands.
DEADLINE FOR APPLICATIONS: 30th MARCH 2020
INTERVIEWS FOR SUCCESSFUL APPLICANTS: 24th APRIL 2020
