Artist Commissions
Tin Shed Theatre Co, The Place Newport, and their partners are seeking artists to join us on The City Box Takeover; an exciting project decorating and transforming a number of utility boxes in Newport City Centre.
Each utility box painting must be inspired by something in CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales, which offers a wide range of works, artists, and objects to inspire creativity:
QR codes will feature on each utility box with a link to the item within CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales which has inspired the artists’ work. This will form an interactive trail that links various locations across Newport, offering an alternative way for people to explore the city and art gallery.
During the project, artists will collaborate with local partners in the city centre to develop and bring their artistic visions to life.
We are particularly interested in hearing from artists from underrepresented backgrounds.
This project has been made possible through funding from CELF: National Contemporary Art Gallery for Wales via Newport City Council.
Fee for each artist:
-
£1500.00 to paint 3- 4 utility boxes/ assets
Boxes vary in sizes (the smallest being approximately 40cm x 60cm x 20cm and the largest being approximately 175cm x 170cm x 45cm). Utility boxes will be divided amongst artists as fairly as possible so that jobs are of a similar scale.

O LLYGODEN A DYNION
"Mae angen rhywun ar foi - i fod yn agos ato. Peidiwch â gwneud unrhyw wahaniaeth pwy yw'r boi, mae e gyda chi ers amser maith"
Llygod a Dynion yn adrodd hanes George Milton a Lenny Small, dau ddyn tra gwahanol wedi eu rhwymo at ei gilydd gan ragluniaeth. Wedi’i gosod yn erbyn cefndir Dirwasgiad Mawr America, mae ein prif gymeriadau truenus yn llunio cynllun i adael eu bywyd o dlodi ar ôl a dechrau o’r newydd. Mae'n ymddangos mor syml, ac efallai mai dyna sydd mor brydferth amdano, ond ychydig a wyddant, mae gan dynged law i'w chwarae o hyd.
Yn seiliedig ar John Steinbeck's Of Llygod a Dynion mae'r chwarae hwn prin angen cyflwyniad. Ers ei ymddangosiad cyntaf ar y llwyfan ym mis Tachwedd 1937 mae wedi dod yn rhan annatod o’r theatr Brydeinig, ac er bod llawer o gynulleidfaoedd wedi ei gweld o’r blaen, nid yw llawenydd syml ei hysgrifennu, hyd at ddiwedd ei hinsoddol, byth yn methu â diddanu a symud. cynulleidfaoedd hen a newydd i'r stori.
Rydym wedi bod yn perfformio y darn mewn ysgolion ers 4 blynedd bellach yn derbyn canmoliaeth gan fyfyrwyr a staff addysgu.

AROLYGYDD YN GALWAD
Amharir ar noson o ddathlu ar aelwyd deuluol lewyrchus gan alwr hwyr y nos. Dyn yn cyflwyno ei hun fel Arolygydd Heddlu. Mae wedi dod i wneud ymholiadau am hunanladdiad merch ifanc, ac o’r eiliad y mae’n cyrraedd mae edefyn wedi’i weu’n gynhenid o amheuaeth, cyhuddiad, cyfrinachau ac amheuaeth yn dechrau datod wrth inni ddysgu’n gyflym nad yw pawb mor ddiniwed ag y gallent ymddangos.
Mae ffilm gyffro dditectif gyffrous JB Priestley yn cael ei hactio fesul darn gan Tin Shed Theatre Co. gyda sgil a thrachywiredd dramatig yn llwyddo i gydbwyso rhyfeddod yr Arolygydd yn erbyn naturioldeb y darn, gan archwilio'r achos dirgel a chanolbwyntio'n drwm ar themâu cryf JB Priestley o gyfrifoldeb cyffredin a phwysigrwydd cymuned.
Cynhyrchwyd y darn hwn y llynedd a theithio ar daith lwyddiannus i dros 40 o ysgolion ledled y wlad.
