Assistant to Sites & Production Manager (ASPM)
Tin Shed Theatre Co. is seeking an Assistant Sites & Production Manager to support the delivery of the Y Bont International Festival — a large-scale international outdoor arts festival taking place across Newport city centre and key public sites.
Y Bont brings together communities, artists, and international partners from Newport (Wales), Rochefort (France), and Bilbao (Basque Country), culminating in a major public celebration centred around the reopening of the Newport Transporter Bridge and a wider programme of outdoor performance, installation, and participatory work.
This is a hands-on production role within a complex, multi-site outdoor festival environment.
About the Role
The Assistant Stage & Production Manager will work directly in support of the Production Manager, assisting in the planning, coordination, and delivery of all stage management and production operations across the festival.
You will play a key role in ensuring the smooth running of rehearsals, performance logistics, and live event delivery across multiple outdoor sites in Newport city centre.
A core responsibility of this role will be the line management and day-to-day support of the Emerging Site Crew team, ensuring clear communication, task delegation, and safe, efficient working practices across all assigned locations.
This role is suited to someone with stage management or production experience who is ready to step into a more senior assistant position within a large-scale outdoor festival environment.
Key Responsibilities
Support the Production Manager in the delivery of all production and stage management operations
Assist with the coordination of multi-site rehearsal and performance activity across the festival
Oversee and line manage the Emerging Site Crew, including task allocation and on-site supervision
Support scheduling, running orders, and day-to-day operational planning
Liaise with technical, artistic, community, and production teams to ensure smooth delivery
Assist with get-ins, get-outs, and site transitions across all locations
Maintain accurate production notes, communication logs, and documentation
Support live event delivery and respond to operational needs in real time
Help maintain safe, organised, and efficient working environments across all sites
Act as a key communication link between the Production Manager and site-based teams
Support problem-solving and decision-making in fast-paced outdoor environments
Essential Criteria
Experience in stage management, production coordination, or live event delivery
Experience working within theatre, festivals, outdoor arts, or live performance contexts
Strong organisational, communication, and leadership skills
Ability to manage and support junior team members or assistants
Confidence working in fast-paced, multi-site environments
Strong understanding of live production processes and team coordination
Ability to remain calm and effective under pressure
Interest in outdoor arts, site-specific performance, or large-scale public events
Desirable Criteria
Experience working in outdoor arts, festivals, or multi-location productions
Experience line managing or supervising crew or assistants
Understanding of health & safety in live event environments
Experience working within participatory or community-led projects
Interest in developing practice within large-scale urban festival contexts
